The largest portion of this collection comprises records of Oriental Bank, Boston, Mass., and Nahant Bank, Lynn, Mass., two banks which went into receivership after the panic of 1837. Included are some stockholders' and directors' records, bills, accounts, and incoming letters. The Oriental Bank had interests in the South Cove Corporation and in the brig Oriental. The Nahant Bank had interests in the Boston and Lynn India Rubber Manufacturing Company of Lynn, for which there is also a case of records, 1833-1843, and in Maine lands. There are also a letter book and accounts of distribution of Revolutionary War pensions of Commonwealth Bank, Boston, 1825-1838; and inventories and accounts of Whitney and Dorr, general store of Boston, 1799-1813.
